Southern California summers bring serious heat, and that can make supplement manufacturing more challenging. Higher temperatures and occasional humidity can affect ingredient stability, packaging performance, and overall product consistency. When you’re producing supplements during these hotter months, it’s important to have the right systems in place, not just equipment but processes, timing, and experience.
In response to seasonal challenges, we’ve developed handling strategies and operational protocols that help maintain product quality during Southern California’s hot weather months.
Keeping Ingredients Stable in the Heat
Some ingredients, like probiotics, enzymes, and heat-sensitive vitamins, don’t respond well to heat. Extended exposure to high temperatures can reduce their potency, which means less effective products for the end user.
To address this, we store all heat-sensitive materials in a dedicated 900 square foot refrigerated space to preserve their stability until they’re ready to be used. Once in production, those ingredients are moved efficiently and handled with extra care during key steps like blending, encapsulation, and filling. This helps reduce any risk of exposure and protects the integrity of the formulation.
Managing Moisture for Consistency
Humidity might not be a constant concern in Southern California, but when it does spike, it can cause problems. Powders can clump, capsules can soften, and machines may not run as smoothly.
Our production and packaging rooms are each equipped with individual air conditioning units that help maintain temperature consistency throughout the process. This provides added protection against moisture-related changes. Operators also monitor how materials are performing and make adjustments on the spot to keep quality on track.
Protecting Packaging Through Seasonal Heat
Packaging can also be affected by heat, especially materials like films and seals. If the seal doesn’t hold or the material warps during filling, the shelf life of the product could be at risk.
To counter that, we use packaging materials that are proven to hold up in warm environments. We also do quality checks throughout the process to make sure seals are tight and materials are performing the way they should. That way, each product is protected even as temperatures climb.
Staying Reliable, No Matter the Season
Our production team has years of experience working through SoCal summers, and we’ve built our approach around that reality. From scheduling and material flow to in-process checks and packaging choices, everything we do is designed to deliver a reliable product, even when the weather isn’t ideal.
It’s not about relying on a single system. It’s about knowing how to work with the environment, not against it.
